Frequently Asked Questions About the Children's Trust Fund

Who provides money for the Children's Trust Fund?

Funds are provided via private donations and fundraisers for the sole use of serving youth within the foster care system. 100% of all donations received by the Children's Trust Fund goes directly to aid our children and families. The Children's Trust Fund also benefits from in-kind donations (see below).

Who qualifies for Children's Trust Fund assistance?

Children residing in Los Angeles County who have open cases within the foster care system qualify for assistance from the Children's Trust Fund.

What is the process and how does the youth receive assistance?

A Children’s Social Worker (CSW) becomes aware that a foster youth has a pressing need. The CSW then completes a DCFS 173 Trust Fund Referral Form. Referral forms are then forwarded to the Children's Trust Fund Representative for the region where the youth resides. Children's Trust Fund Representatives review each referral and forward to the Children's Trust Fund headquarters. Each referral is reviewed during a monthly Committee Meeting of the Representatives and a decision is made to approve or deny the request. When a referral is approved, a check is cut and sent to the Children's Trust Fund Representative for disbursement to the referring CSW’s. Once the item is purchased, a receipt must be sent back to the Children's Trust Fund office, reviewed against the original request for compliance, and then filed with the referral form. This completes the process.

What types of In-Kind donations are helpful to the Children's Trust Fund?

The Children's Trust Fund serves youth in a variety of ways and therefore can benefit from a number of direct donations. For example, every month the Children's Trust Fund receives referrals where children have dental needs that are severe and exceed our ability to assist.
